本を買っても、それはいわば頭金を払っただけ。「自分の時間」という最も高価なローンの支払いは済んでない。本棚に並んでいる未読の蔵書は財産ではない。「読書時間という未払いが残ってる負債」だ。「この本まだ読んでない」という後ろめたさ自体も負債なのだ。
